Oil Pastels in New York City

When I draw on location, I’m outside on my feet, sketching directly with oil pastels. I try to catch the moment as it’s happening, and I lean into color because that’s what I love most. I’m always drawn to city life and older brownstone buildings.

Being outside makes me react fast. I can’t overthink it, so the work stays loose and spontaneous, which is exactly what I want.

Old buildings feel like people to me. Each one has its own personality. That’s what I’m trying to show in my drawings, and when I capture that feeling, it’s the best part of the process.
